Pre-Day 7 Notes About the Main Event
It looks like ESPN is starting to show that they are trying to step their coverage up this year. Just a few minutes ago I saw a few interviews on ESPN2 with Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth, also an update from Ali Nejad. I wouldn’t mind seeing Ali doing the main event commentary in the years to come. Congrats to Ali for landing a job with ESPN!
In the past years the network would have to do these updates at the risk of spoiling their own TV ratings when they finally aired the event. Now that the final table is going to be delayed significantly, this sort of coverage in news clips may actually help to increase ratings…hopefully bringing more money into poker for everyone.
I also just realized that I had neglected to discuss something else in my previous blog…the women of the WSOP. There is 1 woman left in the field; Tiffany Michelle. Entering day 7 Tiffany has just over 9 million in chips and is among the chip leaders. It certainly couldn’t hurt to have a descent looking woman at the final table. Even though the number of entrants in the main event has increased by a few hundred players since last year, the number of women entered into the event has decreased. However, for better or for worse, the women that are still playing seem to be looking a little bit more attractive. Here is a quick link to a picture if Tiffany and Matusow; Tiffany Michelle
The action starts at 12:00 today when the players will play down to the final 9.
