Pokerstars Thwarting Full Tilt’s World Record Attempt

Full Tilt had planned to hold a world record setting tournament on July 19th and take the title of “World’s Largest Poker Tournament” from Pokerstars. The plan was to have a $5 buy in with 50,000 entrants and it looked like this was going to go as planned. As far as the tournament, it still will go as planned, but it won’t be a world record tournament.

Pokerstars has scheduled their own tournament for the same day (tomorrow, July 19th) and it’s guaranteed to have a $100,000 prize pool. I haven’t seen a number for capped entrants but I’m assuming it is somewhere above 100K entrants. As I am writing this entry it is sitting at 42K entrants so it looks like it’s going to destroy Full Tilt’s attempt at the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Pokerstars tournament is a $1 buy in and it is scheduled to start just after 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon E.S.T.

Pokerstars currently holds the record for what will soon be surpassed as the world’s largest poker tournament. They did this with a 35,000 person poker tournament held in December of 2008.

To be honest, I would suggest playing in both of these tournaments because they are both going to be pretty juicy. I guess the dollar tournament is kind of a waste of time for a lot of us, but I’m going to play in it anyway.
