$750,000.00 Labor Day Poker Extravaganza Seminole Hard Rock
After getting knocked out of the Foxwoods Poker Classic main event in April after just six hours , it left a mental scar on me for quite a while. There is a night and day difference between cash game poker and tournaments. I thought that I had just been playing cash games for so long since my last tourney , I thought I might have lost what it takes to do well in a tourney. After 4 mos of self pity , I bought in to the Labor Day Tourney at the Hard Rock in Tampa.
The buy in was $1100.00 and is a strange schedule. It is a typical 4 day tourney , but each of the first 3 days (Fri , Sat , Sun) starts 250 players and play down to 25 each day , once you hit 25 your in the money and go on to Monday (championship day) Out of all the tourneys I’ve played , this one was one of the most brutal in terms of being exhausting. The tourney started at 9am and the bubble didn’t break until 11:30 pm with the dinner break being voted down by the players , it was draining to say the least.
From start to finish I felt really good about my play and made only one mental mistake that cost me $20k in chips. I tried to bluff someone that could just not be bluffed and I knew it before I did it. That being said , I ended up being 5th in chips when it was over and I go on to Monday with $86k in chips. First place is $130k , I could sure use it! Wish me luck everyone. — Matt
