The Carrot Top of Poker
I know this is a stretch, but I don’t have anything else to do right now, so I figure I will just make a ridiculous statement and then try to back it up. I’m gonna come right out and say it; I think Mike Matusow is the Carrot Top of the poker world. You could interpret that statement in any number of ways, I suppose it really depends on who you are and when you grew up (and if you grew up). Allow me to explain…
Carrot Top has been around as long as I can remember. Whether you hate him or like him, you have to admit that he has been around a while and he has turned himself into a household name. I think it would be a pretty good generalization to say that most people think Carrot Top is pretty annoying. I guess that this has always been part of his shtick.
At the same time…is there anyone out there who actually wishes harm to a guy like Carrot Top? Even if you hate him, he’s not the sort of guy that you really hate with a passion. It’s more of a sense like you might derive pleasure from a swift kick to his groin, or perhaps a nice splash of mud in his direction as you drive by him changing a car tire on a rainy day.
So if you can’t see it yet, here is how I make the comparison between Matusow and Carrot Top.
They are both a couple of idiots and this has been the case for as long as I can remember. As much as I would like to pop-off a few rounds from a paintball gun at each of them, I would probably be sad if anything really bad happened to either of them.
I just turned 27, so I’m just getting to the point in my life where I have known anyone for a significant amount of time. I guess I’ve been finding that some of the people that I once hated have started to grow on me.
Anyway, congrats to Mike Matusow for taking down his first Poker After Dark sit n’ go on NBC. Mike was 0/10 going into last week’s show and he had to mount a comeback of epic proportions while he was heads up against Andy Black.
As much as I know that some of you hate the guy, I know many of you had to be routing for him to take down this tournament. He’s a guy that many of us can relate to because he’s become a staple in our world, and I guess you could say that he’s grown on some of us. It was nice to see him take it down. I guess for some reason I was thinking about kicking the s#@t out of Carrot Top when this show came on last week…so the comparison was obvious at the time.
